Vintage Chaos Warriors from the old SS1-2 and SS3 v2 The Knights of Chaos Citadel boxed sets...
These classic 1983 pre-slotta based lead miniatures always resonated with me- they seemed to be inspired straight from a Robert E. Howard book and felt like they could be part of Thulsa Doom's entourage in the 1982 Conan film. When reading Konrad books in 1990, this is what I imagined the Chaos warriors and armour would look like. Over the last few years I have dug these out of the lead pile, cleaned them up and painted them for an Oldhammer force of Chaos. More to come as I clean up those old Chaotic metal miniatures.
Nice work.

I can dig that, they have a more low-key realistic vibe.
Dark Medieval each with it's own character, rather than an array of walking spikes. Which can be done well too like the works of Ian Miller. I feel the centre-left figure quite resembles the Ian Miller mounted Chaos warrior illustration.
DeleteI wish Chaos Warriors looked more like these instead of the current aesthetic.
ReplyDeleteThese look amazing btw, I love the chap in the middle, he looks like a right horrible sod.
Thank you, I agree, much more individualism. The Realm of Chaos books paint a picture of diverse warriors and knights rather than cookie cutter rank and file.
